This is a list of all the people that would be watching you, if they were there. If you're the kind of person who has to take precautions against intruders, then this may be your next-best source of information. It's a simple text file with an alphabetical list of everyone in the building: their name and their room number. The file comes with instructions on how to use it, and what its purpose is for. This helps make sure that no one ever winds up caught in another person's room without permission, or has to go through another person's phone when their phone dies. In fact, this file is far from a new invention. In some folktales, room-guests are seen as a kind of predator. They may pretend to enter a person's room with good intentions, but while they're away from their rightful home they can go through all of your belongings while you're away. "Room Guests" explores the notion of Room-Guests in such folktales and how dangerous they can be to your security and privacy. The narrator is relating the story of someone known only by the title "Roommate" who he claims has been acting strange for "the past few months. She acts like she's into something that's not really her, and she's been doing a lot of weird stuff she says we should just trust her on. Like, she tells us 'just trust me,' and then moves out and gets a new roommate." The narrator goes on to talk about his own problems with Room-Friends, but his attention is again focused upon Roommate. The narrator continues: It started off with this crazy idea to get a roommate. I needed one because my roommates over the years always had so much stuff they didn't use anymore... I was worried about all of my stuff being trashed by Roommate... But she said 'Trust me, everything will be fine.' One night, I was in my room just Googling random stuff when I fell asleep. When I woke up in the middle of the night, Roommate was looking through my Facebook profile. She said'Don't mind me.' I was pretty creeped out because she doesn't have a Facebook. When she moved out later that night, I started to worry about all of my stuff. This story is a fictional account based on real-life situations when people move out and leave their roommates to clean up their messes. Roommate is a room-friend: someone who has entered the room of a person who has no intention of allowing them to, and went through their stuff while they slept. They are different from the type of intruder we usually think about in terms of watching your back while you sleep, or keeping your valuables hidden under the bed. They're not actually there to harm you; instead, they're treating your space like their own, and looking at all of your personal belongings with no regard for what you may find invasive or inappropriate. Roommates can be friendly or dangerous; they can break into homes or commit crimes. cfa1e77820
